A tiny garden victory

We’ve been harvesting our Eversweet everbearing strawberries this past week.  It has been such a treat to enjoy freshly picked berries from the garden. This was the first time I’ve grown strawberries and was quite surprised by how easy it was.  They are hardy little plants!

I was also surprised by how small they are. ?? The everbearing variety is apparently considerably smaller than the June bearers that are normally purchased at the grocer.

Those 8 strawberries are in a 2 1/2″ bowl. Yes, they are that small! I don’t know if this is normal or if this variety is on the smaller end of the already small everbearers. I’ve decided that next year we will plant another strawberry box with June bearers so we can have larger fruit.

Either way, they are definitely a tasty treat! The kids have been enjoying a few berries everyday. Duka makes sure to ask before biting into it, “This is from the garden, right?” He is so proud when he eats something that he’s helped to grow, and I love that he’s already developing that sense of pride and accomplishment. I may be wrong, but I think it will help them choose healthier lifestyles in the future.

Anyone else growing strawberries? Maybe grapes, blueberries, or raspberries? I’d love to learn any tips and see pictures!
